Facts:

  • when he was 18 years old, his father passed away due to an illness he had suffered
  • during his studies, he decided to become an actor and dropped out of the business program to begin taking acting classes
  • he wasn’t very social and was often seen as the “cold, cool kid” but in reality, he was simply shy and someone people would like once they got to know him
  • used to draw as a hobby and his family misunderstood this, thinking “If you can draw, you can be an architect.”
    • with that mindset, he took the exam, but architecture requires strong mathematical skills, which he didn’t have
  • his girlfriend at the time was going to auditions and he started accompanying her without knowing anything about acting
    • there he met actor Can Sipahi, who directed him to Cast 33, run by Sumru Onat
    • curious about how the industry worked, he began watching videos and eventually wanted to try it himself
    • he went to around 200 auditions without any results, yet never felt discouraged, he simply enjoyed gaining experience
  • he confirms that he started out as an extra, appearing in the film Dedemin İnsanları as the praying child standing just behind Mert Fırat
  • Karagül came at a time when he had just lost his father and the director became a father figure to him
    • playing Baran, a character who also lost his father, helped him express emotions he hadn’t been able to show in real life
    • the six-page scene where Baran learns about his mother was a turning point for him
      • after days of preparation and performing it in one take, he felt certain he was in the right profession and still considers it a rare, meaningful opportunity
  • when asked whether there was anyone he had admired for years but felt disappointed after meeting, he says for him the opposite was true
    • he recalls being very excited to meet Kenan İmirzalıoğlu and describes him as extremely humble, adding that he spoke with him like an older brother
  • learned Leage of Legends and researched the game for a week before the film İyi Oyun meeting, wanting to understand his character well
    • it was a project he genuinely wanted to join because it balanced gaming elements with a story anyone could follow
  • while preparing for the role of Cüneyd in Kızıl Goncalar (Red Roses) he researched many historical and spiritual figures, including Ibn Sina, Abdulkadir Geylani, the lives of the Prophets, Fatih Sultan Mehmet and several Ottoman Sultans
    • by blending these influences, the character was shaped through a collective creative process with the writer, director and close collaborators
    • adds that Cüneyd taught him many things beyond academic and religious knowledge, most importantly, a calm perspective on events, along with patience and gratitude
    • describes Kızıl Goncalar as a story of struggle, he says that regardless of one’s background, education or social class, it represents not giving up the fight for what one believes in, no matter what happens
    • hopes the series inspires empathy and a sense of perseverance in viewers
